Awards night goes ahead after storm
SWIMMING: With a growing membership Biggenden Swimming Club described its year as awesome.
After the club presentation night had been rained out on Tuesday, fine sunny weather greeted the committee on Saturday.
Britney Spry was named open distance champion, along with Sophia Radel (minor) and Sophie Treloar and Lee Richmond (junior), and Dustin Fawckner (senior).
The most impressive improvers were Flynn Richmond, Sharlie Loader and Rafe Fawckner.
Most improved swimmers were Lisa Brown, Jye Treloar and Lee Richmond.
Age champions were: Sam Sippel (five years); Flynn Richmond (six years); Sophia Radel and Ryan Jewess (seven years); Sharlie Loader (eight years); Sophie Treloar and Lee Richmond (nine years); Courtney Spry and Rafe Fawckner (11 years); Hannah Radel and Jye Treloar (12 years); Dustin Fawckner (13 years); Britney Spry (15 years).
Other members received encouragement awards.
Coach Ron Birch and Caroline Holmes received appreciation gifts for their support of the club and its members.
Michelle Radel congratulated committee members on their hard work in recent weeks.
“You rallied and worked lots of hours for what we have here today,” she said.
“I did order you some flowers but they are stuck the other side of the creek.”
Biggenden Swimming Club had an increase in numbers this season.
President Kathy Spry said the club hadn’t seen that for a long time.
“They are young members so will stick with the club,” she said.
During the season members travelled to various championships and meets in the region with many bringing home medals.
Britney Spry, along with Dustin and Rafe Fawckner made Wide Bay while Dustin went on to the state titles.
