Cel­e­brate Easter at rodeo

Huge pro­gram com­ing up over long week­end

THERE are 2000 nom­i­na­tions for 10 Aus­tralian Pro­fes­sional Rodeo Association rodeos in three states at Easter.

There will be four rodeos in Vic­to­ria, four in Queens­land and two in New South Wales.

Vic­to­rian rodeos are at Great Western, Omeo, Buchan and Lang Lang on suc­ces­sive days from Good Fri­day to Easter Mon­day.

There is a rodeo at De­niliquin in New South Wales on Easter Satur­day and Tocumwal on Easter Sun­day.

In Queens­land, the rodeo ac­tion will start with the Des­tiny Downs Timed Event Fi­esta Rodeo at Emer­ald and an Xtreme Bull Ride at Roma on Good Fri­day then move to the Emer­ald Easter Sun­flower Fes­ti­val Rodeo on the Satur­day and head south for a full cham­pi­onship points rodeo at Roma on Easter Sun­day.

Most of the Queens­land rid­ers are con­cen­trat­ing on the rodeos in their own state but there will some traf­fic across the New South Wales/Vic­to­ria bor­der as rid­ers take in the ac­tion at four Easter Rodeos in Vic­to­ria and two in New South Wales.

Tooma (NSW) Sad­dle Bronc rider Brad Pierce is com­pet­ing in rodeos in both states.

In Vic­to­ria, he will come up against rid­ers from three other states, in­clud­ing Broad­ford (Vic) cow­boy Luke Chap­lain, Goolwa (SA) Sad­dle Bronc rider David Stacey and Pen­guin (Tas) rider Ty King.

One of the tight­est bat­tles in Vic­to­ria will be be­tween APRA All Around Cow­girl Cham­pion Shi­anne O’Donoghue-Kent (Bun­yip, Vic) and her aunt Cherie O’Donoghue (Lock­ing­ton, Vic) in the Bar­rel Race and Break­away Rop­ing.

The timed events in Queens­land will be close with Emer­ald rider and mul­ti­ple APRA All Around Cow­boy ti­tle win­ner Shane Kenny from Emer­ald up against two of the best in the busi­ness - Shane Iker (Al­ton Downs) cur­rent All Around Cham­pion Cow­boy and Clancy Mid­dle­ton (Hugh­en­den) as well as young gun Camp­bell Hod­son from Townsville.

The 10 Easter rodeos will be cru­cial as com­peti­tors chase prize money and Cham­pi­onship Points in the bat­tle for top 15 spots and qual­i­fy­ing for The War­wick Rodeo Na­tional Fi­nals in Queens­land at the end of Oc­to­ber. APRA Rodeo pro­gram
