Glamorous night for showgirls
Winner to be crowned at an event fit for the stars
EIDSVOLD Show’s Hollywood, A Night with the Stars is taking place this weekend.
An exciting night is planned, with good food, company and, of course, finding out who will be crowned the 2017 Miss Showgirl and Rural Ambassador for Eidsvold.
Eidsvold Showgirls co-ordinator Diane Wilson said the concept for the themed night came from “looking at the sky and that’s where all the stars hang out”.
“What we have is very important about our little place and now Night with the Stars is about the girls,” Mrs Wilson said.
“The show is once a year and you come together, whether it’s been a good year or not, and you forget the realities of life at night and have a look at what’s coming up for the future.
“These young girls are the future and if we don’t nurture them to believe in their town, in which they all live, and themselves, then there isn’t much out here.”
Mrs Wilson said the night would be a lot of fun and was an important part of show planning.
“The girls will come here at 6pm and people will still be arriving and they will be seated,” she said.
“At this time the judges will be finalising and making decisions on who wins based on etiquette, how they speak, how much knowledge they have on the show society, who is the president and so on.
“The night includes beautiful ball gowns for the girls to wear and we hope they all have a good time and enjoy themselves with lots of dancing and music.”
As a showgirl there are plenty of opportunities awarded to the winner.
“They can go into a youth show, people are into photography these days so they can take photographs in, floral arrangements and cooking,” Mrs Wilson said.
“A lot of things have changed, like next it could be computer programs. It’s a generation that is changing and that’s why we’re trying to get people’s feedback on it.”
The Eidsvold Show Society is doing the best it can to keep the spirit going and ensure it stays alive with the next generation.
“We’re trying to keep it alive like the campdrafts, your best beast competition. It’s great for the community,” Mrs Wilson said.
“It injects money into the town and tourism will benefit greatly from the show.”
The committee also organised a wine and cheese night that helped bring the community together.
“It was the girls’ idea and they helped make it possible,” Mrs Wilson said.
“They’ve done a really good job of setting it all up and this Saturday night should be a huge success.”
Hollywood, A Night with the Stars is on Saturday, April 29, starting at 6pm.
It will be held at the Eidsvold Town Hall.
