YOUR best defence against the flu in 2017 is at the Guardian Pharmacy in both Gayndah and Mundubbera with staff now able to deliver quick and convenient flu vaccinations in store and to anyone over 18 years old.

Gayndah Guardian pharmacist Stephanie Tucker said no prescriptions or appointments were needed with Guardian Pharmacy, taking the pain out of getting your flu vaccine in time for winter.

“The demand for this service has been overwhelming,” Miss Tucker said.

“Graham Rowles and I completed the vaccination training earlier this year and it has been professionally satisfying to be able to provide this service to meet our customer’s requests.”

There are two main reasons for getting an annual flu vaccine.

Flu viruses are frequently changing, and vaccines may be updated from one season to the next to protect against the most recent and common circulating strains.

And a person’s immune protection from the influenza vaccination declines over time and annual vaccination is recommended,” Mr Rowles said.

“Vaccinating against influenza does more than just protect the individual,” Mr Rowles said.

“The benefits of immunisation extend well beyond individual protection, especially for those who come into contact with vulnerable people such as the elderly, young or sick.

“Vaccination reduces the risk of passing the disease on to those most at risk of serious complications.”

Herd immunity or "Community Immunity" occurs when a portion of a community is immunised against a contagious disease.

Even those who are not eligible for certain vaccines such as infants, pregnant women, or immunocompromised individuals, get some protection because the spread of contagious disease is contained.

The principle of community immunity applies to control of a variety of contagious diseases, including influenza, measles, mumps, rotavirus, and pneumococcal disease.

The quadrivalent flu vaccine helps to protect you against four different strains of the flu this winter and now is the time to get your vaccination.

You can contact Guardian Pharmacy for an appointment on 4161 1304 and 4165 4537.
