BEACON FOUNDATION BUSINESS LAUNCH
Monto State High School has been involved with the Beacon Foundation initiative for 7 years through its implementation of the “Positive Futures” program delivered to year 10 students. The Beacon Foundation model is a holistic approach to addressing low school retention rates, student engagement and successful transition rates to work or further training. The Beacon Foundation “Positive Futures” program acts as a conduit to bring the school, community and local business together. Each year, the Year 10 students are involved in a number of activities supported by the “Positive Futures” program, with the first event, the Business Launch, being held on Tuesday 14 March. The Business event provided an opportunity for local businesses, Regional council, community groups and the School to meet and discuss the 2017 overview of the coming program. The business event was chaired by the Student Ambassadors, Jordane Gardiner, Brooke Radel, Taine Rooney, Cameron Link, Miguel Herrara and Jasmena Johnston. The Senior Hospitality students provided a wonderful menu of mocktails and canapes. This year, the guest speaker was Mr David Watson, who provided the audience with an overview of his career choices and the varied pathways that he travelled. With a key focus of the program being “positive choices for positive pathways”, Mr Watson explored how having a number of different career choices and experiencing a range of job opportunities, allowed for him to make a decided choice for his career. Congratulations to the Beacon Ambassadors for the successful event and a special thank you to the local businesses and community members for their attendance and continued support for the program.
