MONTO CHARBRAY SALE Monto’s Sale held on Wednesday, April 26 had 714 head yarded which included 270 charbray cattle entered for judging in the Charbray Infused Sale section. Prices were extremely good with a large buyer panel keen to source quality charbray cattle. Cattle were drawn from Theodore, Cracow, Taroom, Mt Perry, Boyne Valley and Monto districts.
Prime charbray bullocks account of Bennett Family Trust sold to 309c/kg returning $2020 and were purchased by Matt Pavey of Teys Biloela. Barry and Carole Whitaker, Rolling Hills, Eidsvold won Champion Pen of Steers for 2017 with No.6 steers at 406kg which sold to $1385 or 341c/kg. The Whitaker steers also won their class of steers 10-18 months.
Steve Pailthorpe won the class for steers 18 months and over with 416kg steers which returned $1404 or 337/kg. Harold and Pam Dwyer consigned a quality run of charbray weaners with their weaner steers winning their class and selling for 399c/kg or 1272 and heifers selling to $808 or 324c/kg.
Bev and Roy Marbach had a good day with Champion Pen of Females overall plus heifers 10-18 months and heifers over 18 months.
The older heifers sold to 318c/kg or $1215 while their lighter sisters sold to $1057. Monto Cattle and Country and the Charbray Society would like to thank all vendors, sponsors and buyers for their support.
Sale highlights continued in other breeds with Arthur Maynard selling a quality run of santa No.6 EU heifers from 307-319c/kg to average 315c/kg or $1120. Ashenhurst Partnership consigned droughtmaster cross no.6 steers 258kg which sold to 360c/kg or $930. Monal Grazing sold a run of brangus and brahman cross weaner steers from 382-408c/kg topping at $950. GS Ogle penned brahman cross heifers 376kg which returned $1126.
Weaner heifers generally sold from 290-330c/kg. Monto’s next sale will be on Wednesday, May 10. EIDSVOLD FORTNIGHTLY SALE Top X held their fortnightly cattle sale on Wednesday, April 26 with a quality line up of cattle on offer. Steers under 200 kg averaged 385c/kg while Steers in the 200-300kg range earned to 413c/kg and averaged 385c/kg.
Steers 300-400kg earned 319c/kg and averaged 317c/kg. Heifers under 200kgs sold to 326c/kg and averaged 308c/kg while Heifers in the 200-300kg range earned to 349c/kg and averaged 331c/kg.
Heifers 300-400kg sold 305c/kg and averaged 297c/kg.

The next Biggenden meatworks and store sale is Monday, May 15.
The market was slightly cheaper throughout for all descriptions sold in Murgon on Tuesday.
Agents yarded 900. Increase in overall supply to the market place seems to be the reason for the price adjustment.

A draft of 44 droughtmaster steers a/c M Donahue Tansey sold for an average of $1472.00 at $2.88 c/kg.
Cows over 500 kg sold to $2.50 c/kg averaging $2.35 c/kg.
Heavy droughtmaster cows topped at $1720.00.
Cows in the 400–500 kg bracket averaged $2.10 c/kg topping at $2.39 c/kg. Lightweight cows sold to $2.05 c/kg.
The best of the Export type heifers sold to $1450.00 at $2.80 c/kg.

Show sale winners, Roy and Bev Marbach, of “Jebrocalee”, took out first prize for Heifers 10-18 months and first prize for heifers over 18 months and then went on to win Champion Pen of Females at Monto’s second Charbray Prime and Store show sale.
