MONTO CHARBRAY SALE Monto’s Sale held on Wed­nes­day, April 26 had 714 head yarded which in­cluded 270 charbray cat­tle en­tered for judg­ing in the Charbray In­fused Sale sec­tion. Prices were ex­tremely good with a large buyer panel keen to source qual­ity charbray cat­tle. Cat­tle were drawn from Theodore, Cra­cow, Ta­room, Mt Perry, Boyne Val­ley and Monto dis­tricts.

Prime charbray bul­locks ac­count of Ben­nett Fam­ily Trust sold to 309c/kg re­turn­ing $2020 and were pur­chased by Matt Pavey of Teys Biloela. Barry and Ca­role Whi­taker, Rolling Hills, Eidsvold won Cham­pion Pen of Steers for 2017 with No.6 steers at 406kg which sold to $1385 or 341c/kg. The Whi­taker steers also won their class of steers 10-18 months.

Steve Pailthorpe won the class for steers 18 months and over with 416kg steers which re­turned $1404 or 337/kg. Harold and Pam Dwyer con­signed a qual­ity run of charbray wean­ers with their weaner steers win­ning their class and sell­ing for 399c/kg or 1272 and heifers sell­ing to $808 or 324c/kg.

Bev and Roy Mar­bach had a good day with Cham­pion Pen of Fe­males over­all plus heifers 10-18 months and heifers over 18 months.

The older heifers sold to 318c/kg or $1215 while their lighter sis­ters sold to $1057. Monto Cat­tle and Coun­try and the Charbray So­ci­ety would like to thank all ven­dors, spon­sors and buy­ers for their sup­port.

Sale high­lights con­tin­ued in other breeds with Arthur May­nard sell­ing a qual­ity run of santa No.6 EU heifers from 307-319c/kg to av­er­age 315c/kg or $1120. Ashen­hurst Part­ner­ship con­signed drought­mas­ter cross no.6 steers 258kg which sold to 360c/kg or $930. Monal Graz­ing sold a run of bran­gus and brah­man cross weaner steers from 382-408c/kg top­ping at $950. GS Ogle penned brah­man cross heifers 376kg which re­turned $1126.

Weaner heifers gen­er­ally sold from 290-330c/kg. Monto’s next sale will be on Wed­nes­day, May 10. EIDSVOLD FORTNIGHTLY SALE Top X held their fortnightly cat­tle sale on Wed­nes­day, April 26 with a qual­ity line up of cat­tle on of­fer. Steers un­der 200 kg av­er­aged 385c/kg while Steers in the 200-300kg range earned to 413c/kg and av­er­aged 385c/kg.

Steers 300-400kg earned 319c/kg and av­er­aged 317c/kg. Heifers un­der 200kgs sold to 326c/kg and av­er­aged 308c/kg while Heifers in the 200-300kg range earned to 349c/kg and av­er­aged 331c/kg.

Heifers 300-400kg sold 305c/kg and av­er­aged 297c/kg.

W& A Gray sold 181kg brah­man X Steers sell­ing 385c/kg or $698

K& J Ja­cobi pre­sented 128kg brah­man X Steers re­turn­ing 385c/kg or $495

The next Biggenden meat­works and store sale is Mon­day, May 15.


The mar­ket was slightly cheaper through­out for all de­scrip­tions sold in Murgon on Tues­day.

Agents yarded 900. In­crease in over­all sup­ply to the mar­ket place seems to be the rea­son for the price ad­just­ment.

All reg­u­lar pro­ces­sors and feed­lot­ters were in at­ten­dance as well as lo­cal re­stock­ers. Cat­tle were con­signed from Mun­dub­bera, Gayndah, Biggenden, Yar­ra­man, Kin­garoy, Nanango, Kilki­van & lo­cally.

Ex­port bulls topped at $2550.00 c/kg and $2.78 c/kg. Sim­men­tal cross bul­locks from Murgon sold to $2.81 c/kg for $2014.00.

A draft of 44 drought­mas­ter steers a/c M Don­ahue Tansey sold for an av­er­age of $1472.00 at $2.88 c/kg.

Cows over 500 kg sold to $2.50 c/kg av­er­ag­ing $2.35 c/kg.

Heavy drought­mas­ter cows topped at $1720.00.

Cows in the 400–500 kg bracket av­er­aged $2.10 c/kg top­ping at $2.39 c/kg. Light­weight cows sold to $2.05 c/kg.

The best of the Ex­port type heifers sold to $1450.00 at $2.80 c/kg.

T Samp­son Yar­ra­man sold an­gus weaner steers for $914.00 at $3.20 c/kg. Shorthorn weaner steers from J& A Rose Murgon sold for $891.00 and $3.10 c/kg. Light drought­mas­ter weaner steers from Goomeri sold for $714.00 at $3.38 c/kg.

190 kg charbray steers form Tansey sold for $675.00 and $3.52 c/kg.

Santa heifers a/c P Sempf Wondai sold for $1291.00 at $3.17 c/kg.

Bur­nett Live­stock & Realty’s Lance Whi­taker with a pen of An­gus milk tooth steers on ac­count of the SDM Fam­ily Trust, Gin Gin. The steers sold for 345.2c/kg or $1317/head.

Show sale win­ners, Roy and Bev Mar­bach, of “Je­bro­calee”, took out first prize for Heifers 10-18 months and first prize for heifers over 18 months and then went on to win Cham­pion Pen of Fe­males at Monto’s sec­ond Charbray Prime and Store show sale.
