THE first backpacker hostel in the North Burnett is officially open and looking for guests.

Jenny Postle (pictured) and husband Mark came up with the idea to turn the building into a hostel, providing a living space for backpackers in Mundubbera.

“Probably if we weren’t builders we wouldn’t have approached it, but we saw the need to have one in Mundubbera especially with the blueberry season and the influx of backpackers required for the picking season,” Mr Postle said.

The hostel opened its doors on Monday.

POSSCO director Mark Postle said a lot of hard work was put in over the past year.

“Probably if we weren’t builders we wouldn’t have approached it, but we saw the need to have one in Mundubbera especially with the blueberry season and the influx of backpackers required for the picking season,” Mr Postle said.

“We just saw an opening and a big empty building going to waste in the main street and that’s where it started.”

Mr Postle said the hostel had brought in a lot of positive feedback from community members.

“Everyone is quite enthusiastic about it and it’s now up to us to attract the backpackers and I think what we have to offer is top notch facilities for them,” he said.

“We didn’t envision the end product, it’s evolved a lot from what we actually started with which is good news.”

Mr Postle said the hostel catered for everyone’s needs.

“We’ve got full access and a car park catering for those with a disability,” Mr Postle said.

“It’s fully compliant for wheelchair access.”

The process has been a long but rewarding journey for the Postle family.

“It’s had its challenges but the one thing I’ve learnt during the process is nothing good comes easy,” Mr Postle said.

“It’s been a battle but it’s been worth it, we’ve learnt lots along the way.”

North Burnett residents were invited to tour the new facility during an open day on Saturday.
