Cheese work­shop is com­ing to Monto

ELIS­A­BETH Feko­nia of Black Moun­tain, Sun­shine Coast, is com­ing to Monto May 20 to teach the sci­ence of fer­ment­ing foods, in two work­shops run­ning from 9am-12pm.

Mrs Feko­nia has been mak­ing her own hard cheese for over 20 years and teach­ing work­shops for over 10 years.

Whether she uses her own cow or goat milk or buys bot­tles of milk from the su­per­mar­ket, the end re­sult is great cheese.

It all started a cou­ple of decades ago when she de­cided to start be­ing self-suf­fi­cient, want­ing to grow and pro­duce her own food.

She doesn’t use any spe­cialised equip­ment but rather looks in op shops and mar­kets for the equip­ment she needs for her cheese mak­ing and fer­ment­ing uten­sils.

Ev­ery­one who par­tic­i­pates will go away with handouts, sourdough starter, bread dough to bake at home or bake on the day and new skills to last them a life­time.
