Tigers maul Eagles in league clash
RUGBY LEAGUE: A fierce and competitive game of rugby league was held at the weekend with the Mundubbera Tigers 86 defeating the Eidsvold Eagles 16.
Despite the big score line that was lost towards the 50 minute mark, the Eagles were left scrambling after four players did not show up.
Eidsvold Eagles coach Darryl Blucher said his team played with a lot of heart.
“We played well tonight, the boys put in 110% and with some players not showing up, it made it a lot harder,” Blucher said.
“We’ll get there, we just need everyone to show up, I’m very disappointed some of the team didn’t make it to Mundubbera for the game.
“The players all said they would show up and didn’t let me know, so it’s quite disappointing, we need them each week otherwise we’ll have more of this scoreline.”
Despite numerous phone calls made to the players, there was no response.
“We went down to about 12 players and we tried giving them a ring but no one answered so definitely not a good way to end the week. We’ll keep working on it,” Blucher said.
“This week we’ll be working on tackling and defence, lots of defence work is needed, ball hand skills are good, just defence.”
Mundubbera coach Neil Reinke said his team played well but some areas needed to be worked on.
“So we focused more on the defensive line, so on ball handling we pushed that, it seems to have come off pretty well,” Reinke said.
“The second half was definitely the dominating half, it’s where everything kicked in and the players did really well.
“Eidsvold played a pretty fast game, they’re super quick and they got off their defensive line instantly and straight onto the players which is good for their side.
“We’ll work more on our kicking game to make it A-plus and by next week we should be right.”
This weekend it’s a double header in Gayndah.
