CHAMPION breeders Elvis Pointon and Adam Hatton know first hand how challenging raising cattle can be.

At the 2017 Eidsvold Show, they proved they had risen to the challenges.

Mr Hatton won the Slater Memorial Shield for the most successful exhibitor and Mr Pointon won for Champion Grass Fed Female.

A Santa Gertrudis breeder, Mr Hatton said the was a way of promoting cattle.

“We breed bulls and we sell stud cattle so it’s a way of standing up against other people’s cattle,” he said.

“The main objective is to breed bulls for sale, it’s not an easy job as you have to have the correct temperament and a lot of time and money.

“I’ve been breeding cattle since I left school, it’s a lot of fun.”

The Hatton family has bred Santa Gertrudis for the past 45 years.
