Gin Gin golfer smashes out winning score
GOLF: The Mundubbera Golf Carnival was held at the weekend, with Gin Gin golfer Scotty Warren winning the competition on a gross score of 67.
The competition involved about 80 golfers bracing the early morning start to play an 18-hole competition, with players coming from all across the Wide Bay to compete.
Mundubbera Golf Course president Graham Carlyon said the competition this year was far more competitive and had some surprising results.
“It was an extremely successful event – we had more golfers than last year, which was a good thing for the club,” Carlyon said.
“The scoring field was fairly average and saw competitors in arm’s lengths trying to win the competition.”
Carlyon said while experience levels varied, it was a competitive day all round.
“(There were some golfers) who played serious golf and did extremely well,” he said.
The carnival involved a lot of preparation from the committee and Carlyon thanked all the volunteers who helped make the day possible.
“It was Kerry Beutel’s first major event as a captain and he came out with flying colours. It can be a little daunting, especially as you get a few last-minute phone calls, but that happens and he handled it well.”
The comments from the wider public were positive, Carlyon said.
“Golfers were impressed with how far the club has come with regards to the course,” he said.
“If golfers could complain about something, they would. So for only positive comments to be said, it means things are looking up.”
The winner for the men’s A-grade was Scotty Warren and the ladies’ competition went to Jodie Gibbs on 81.
The club thanked Central Burnett Fruit Processors for donating the $500 for prizes.
