Riding for their country
RODEO: For the next two months the Carlson family will call America home as children Clayton and Emi fly the flag for Australia.
The family flew out of the country on Monday heading to Dallas before going their separate ways as both the children are competing at events in different towns.
Parents Tony and Kerrie are extremely proud of their children to be representing their country in the sport of rodeo.
“This is something they are both very passionate about,” Mrs Carlson said.
Pocket rocket Emi at only 10 years of age is representing Australia in the All American Youth Barrel race at Jackson, Mississippi from June 13-17.
After she arrives in America, Emi has to select her horse and do some practice before competing.
After Jackson she will then ride at the NBHA World Youths in Perry, Georgia from July 20-28.
On Friday, May 26 Emi came second in the Open Ladies barrel race at the Fraser Coast NRA Rodeo and then travelled to Middlemount CRCA Rodeo to win the under-18 junior barrel race the following day.
Competing in America isn’t new to Emi who, along with Tamara Buczma, in March last year represented Australia at the Panama NBHA Young International competition.

Thirteen-year-old Clayton gained selection for the Australia Junior Rodeo team to compete in the steer ride and chute dogging at Gonzales, Texas from June 13-16.
He then travels on to compete in the World High School finals in the junior bull ride. Clayton qualified for this at Charters Towers back in March.
Clayton said he was looking forward to this wonderful opportunity to ride for his country.
“As well as experiencing rodeo in the USA,” he said
Clayton had a win at Comet PRO rodeo on the weekend of May 27-28 in the under- 18 steer ride.
He is now keen to go get on some junior bulls.
Both will compete at Jackpot Rodeos in between competitions, again for their country.

The family flies home on Wednesday, August 2.
