RUGBY LEAGUE: After a disappointing loss against the Gayndah Gladiators last week, the Mundubbera Tigers bounced back with a 36-16 win against the Eidsvold Eagles.

Despite the penalty count not favouring the Eagles, it was poor hand-overs and high tackles that allowed the Tigers back into the game, with their captain noting it wasn’t their strongest performance.

Tigers Captain Dan Augustine said despite the win at the weekend, there was lots of room for improvement.

“We could’ve played better,” Augustine said.

“It doesn’t really feel like a win coming off the Gladiators defeat but I’m hoping next week we can play a whole lot better.”

The team will be back into training with a lot of work going into ball control, tackling and defence.

“We’ve really got to improve on the team culture at the club and getting them back on track as the team premiers,” Augustine said.

“We slightly improved but you can’t really say how much as it was still a scruffy performance, they got a win but we need more than that

if we want to win the premiership this year.

“There’s always plenty of improving to go if we want to win it.

“Tackling and fitness is what we will be working on at training this week.”

Eidsvold Eagles coach Darryl Blucher said he was disappointed with the penalty count against his team.

“We felt pretty disheartened to be honest, I don’t think the players deserved some of the calls but you can’t do much about it,” Blucher said.

“In fairness I think our players handled themselves well and their defence was good.”

The Eagles have a bye this weekend and will be working on ball handling.

“We’ll get back into training and working on ball skills,” Blucher said.
