Biggenden-Gooroolba Rd lacks funds for fix

WITH a $1.8 million commitment to continuing the pavement rehabilitation on the Burnett Hwy in Tuesday’s budget, the plight of the Gooroolba-Biggenden Rd continues.

A Department of Transport and Main Roads spokesperson said the current Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program (QTRIP) did not include plans to upgrade the road.

“We will continue to monitor the condition of the road and seek funding for improvements where necessary,” the spokesperson said.

“Any future funding would be considered against other competing priorities.”

School bus operator Graham Henningsen has the capacity to carry 25 children from the Didcot area into the Biggenden State School along the Gooroolba-Biggenden Rd.

“The road is disgusting,” he said.

“I think the reason the road hasn’t been upgraded is due to lack of traffic.

“That’s because locals are using other roads to drive into Biggenden.

“When the bus is empty I use Seccombes Rd as it’s a smoother ride.”
