Jobs agenda for Wide Bay
THE Queensland government is proposing to incentivise employers in the Wide Bay-Burnett area to target regional job seekers.
The 2017-2018 budget aims to boost employment through funding a number of infrastructure projects in the area.
However, the vast majority of these projects are located outside the North Burnett area.
Of the proposed projects, only the North Burnett sports grounds and Burnett Hwy Pavement rehabilitation will directly affect the area.
As part of the Back to Work plan roll out, the government will be paying $1.8 million to 265 employers to hire 412 local job seekers and a further $2.4 million in Youth Boost payments to 308 employers to employ 450 young job seekers.
Employment and Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace said the program, which will soon be extended to the south-east, has seen success in regional areas.
“Regional employers are embracing the Back to Work program in ever increasing numbers, with the program already supporting over 4,300 jobs.” Ms Grace said.
