RACQ has launched a con­tro­ver­sial new road safety cam­paign de­signed to shock driv­ers out of us­ing their mo­bile phones while be­hind the wheel. RACQ’s ‘bag a phone, not a body’ cam­paign will run over the next three weeks and aims to change driver be­hav­iour by draw­ing at­ten­tion to the deadly risks as­so­ci­ated with tex­ting, us­ing so­cial me­dia and mak­ing and re­ceiv­ing calls while driv­ing. RACQ spokesper­son Lau­ren Ritchie said it was time mo­torists recog­nised just how se­ri­ous the is­sue had be­come. She said it was now the fastest grow­ing prob­lem on Queens­land roads with 25% of crashes a re­sult of phones.
