What media should I be encouraging my teen to consume?

Central and North Burnett Times - - YOUR SAY -

Watching news, current affairs and documentaries, or reading about these sorts of issues online can provide a good foundation of political and social awareness in your teen.

Even social media, for all its criticism, can help develop social skills in a child. Just make sure you keep an eye out for any of the potential pitfalls – such as online bullying and inappropriate content.

This highlights why it’s important to encourage good media behaviour from an early age.

Lastly, there are plenty of people in the news as well as fictional characters who can serve as great role models. If your teen is into a show where a character sets a good example in how they handle difficult situations, then support them watching it.
