Flightless Eagles defeated
RUGBY LEAGUE: Biggenden Warriors player Damien George was named man of the match as the Eidsvold Eagles continued their losing streak in a 42-28 defeat at the weekend.
It was some reckless penalties and defensive errors that allowed Warriors back into the second half as the Eagles were left flightless.
Biggenden Warriors coach Steve Jackson said his team could have played better but were starting to play cohesively.
“I reckon this game is an improvement but there’s still quite a lot that needs to be done,” Jackson said.
“We’re not capitalising on the penalties that we’re given, but we’re managing to talk a bit more as a team.
“Communication is a huge thing in any game and due to new players in the past few weeks, we need to learn how to be a team again.”
Jackson admits it hasn’t been an easy ride this season but his players are “showing vast improvement”.
Eidsvold Eagles coach Darryl Blucher said his team played with all their might and should be proud of the way they conducted
“It was a great match, a really good match,” Blucher said.
“We’ve got a few new players in the team which is helping us a lot.”
The Eagles gave away a lot of penalties which helped the Warriors gain mileage.
“We’ll just have to work on them, it’s just something as a team we’ll have to manage and find ways to avoid getting penalised,” Blucher said.
The game was almost going to be cancelled due to lack of players for the Eagles team but in a mad dash they found some willing players to take the field.
Blucher said his team will be working on a few things during training in preparation for the finals.
“We’ll be working on ball control, defence and moving up with the forwards,” Blucher said.
