Champions on green
GOLF: Monto Golf Club’s Sunday open event was attended by some major players.
Clubs came up from North Burnett, Gin Gin, Bundaberg and further to compete.
Wide Bay champion Scotty Warren won the men’s A-grade with 66 gross.
“It was up and down, course was in great condition, good company,” Warren said.
Every Wide Bay golf club holds an open. Monto’s event happened to follow last week’s big game at Bargara.
While Warren has been playing at Monto for 10 years, ladies winner and Wide Bay champion Kathy Nelson had her first game on the course.
Nelson won the gross with 80, followed closely by last year’s champion, Monto’s Leesa Ison with 81.
“Our greens at Bargara are smoother and harder, so there’s more speed on the greens,” Nelson said.
Sunday’s event will be a stableford for trophies provided by Keith Murr and Wal Wilkes.
