Club leaves no stone unturned

Central and North Burnett Times - - NEWS -

THERE are still undiscovered stones lurking in people’s very backyards in the North Burnett.

A few members of Monto’s Lapidary Club recently went out fossicking for volcanic tuff out north of Cania Gorge.

Lapidary Club president Marian Young said the group liked to make a weekend getaway out of it.

“I gave them (the owners) a sample of the same rock we were looking for and I think they were surprised by how pretty it was,” Mrs Young said.

The club will chose a person’s property and (with their permission) spend a day digging for rare materials.

Afterward, they take it back to the club at Sunshine House to refine the rocks.

“We can draw patterns on them, freehand shapes and move from the rough grit wheels to the polishing wheels,” Mrs Young said.
