President has ambition
Fanatic rugby league player wants his team to win the premiership
MUNDUBBERA Tigers president Cameron MacDonald has grown up around rugby league and now wants to help the Tigers win a premiership.
The rugby league fanatic first played the game when he was five and said he had never looked back.
“I first started playing at a very young age for the Mundubbera Tigers and enjoy playing alongside mates every week. In my opinion rugby league is the greatest game of all and because of it I’ve met a lot of great people both on and off the field,” MacDonald said.
The Tigers won the premiership last year, and MacDonald said he hoped his team could be successful again as it looked set to rival the Gayndah Gladiators in 2017.
“With the end of the season just around the corner my goal for the Tigers is to win the premiership as I’m sure it’s the same for every team in the competition,” he said.
“We haven’t been able to field our full strength side since the Citrus cup due to injuries and players with other commitments throughout the season.”
The president said he knew first-hand what it took to be a champion team and gave key tips to the Tigers players.
“Defence is a big part of winning games but also completing our attacking sets which we seem to panic with a bit lately,” MacDonald said.
“Gayndah have set the platform for the season so far with a big mobile forward pack and for your backs to do anything your piggies need to do their job in the engine room so I would like to think if we can tighten up a few things in the middle we will be in with a red hot chance come finals time.”
MacDonald said he didn’t have any goals for the future ahead but he would like to focus on the finals coming up.
“I just take each day as it comes really and as long as the body lets me keep playing I’ll keep turning up each week,” he said.
