League show­down to bring in crowd

RUGBY LEAGUE: Mun­dub­bera Tigers Pres­i­dent Cameron MacDon­ald said the In­trust Su­per Cup would pro­vide a great op­por­tu­nity for the North Bur­nett to show­case it­self.

“The In­trust Su­per Cup Coun­try Week game is mas­sive for not only our club but also our lo­cal com­mu­nity and the North Bur­nett re­gion,” MacDon­ald said.

“The In­trust Su­per Cup is the next best thing to the NRL and it’s great that we get the chance to host a game of this cal­i­bre it gives peo­ple the op­por­tu­nity to see some top grade footy up close. It’s go­ing to be a great day of rugby league which will be broad­cast live on WIN tele­vi­sion.”

This year is the first time the re­gion will host such an event and it is set to bring hun­dreds of footy fans to Mun­dub­bera’s Archer Park on July 22-23.

The In­trust Su­per Cup is a mas­sive event in rugby league and will be hosted in Mun­dub­bera.

Four towns in­clud­ing Mun­dub­bera will host the premier­ship matches as part of the Get in the Game Coun­try Week ini­tia­tive.

The match, be­tween the East Tigers and North Devils will be tele­vised to the en­tire re­gion.

Sports Min­is­ter Michael de Brenni said he was pleased to see it held in the Bur­nett.

“Noth­ing brings us as Queens­lan­ders to­gether like footy, and this is es­pe­cially true in re­gional Queens­land,” de Brenni said.

“I’m proud that our gov­ern­ment will con­tinue to sup­port the Queens­land Rugby League’s In­trust Su­per Cup Coun­try Week ini­tia­tive with a three-year spon­sor­ship com­mit­ment.

“Sport is a lifeblood of many coun­try towns. We want to show you how keen we are to get be­hind your lo­cal com­mu­nity.”

Queens­land Rugby League manag­ing di­rec­tor Robert Moore was pleased with the news.

“Last year’s round gen­er­ated $104,000 for the clubs and lo­cal leagues who hosted matches,” Moore said.

“Coun­try Week is a won­der­ful ini­tia­tive, and we’re ex­tremely grate­ful to the Queens­land Gov­ern­ment for ex­tend­ing their com­mit­ment to this re­ward­ing pro­gram.”
