Biggenden bingo still on cards thanks to SES team

Central and North Burnett Times - - NEWS -

THE North Burnett SES has taken over the responsibility of running the weekly bingo game in Biggenden.

The handover happened because Biggenden resident Colleen Cunliffe had to step aside.

Mrs Cunliffe handed over the running of the popular social event after more than a year of organising the games.

Local controller Brian Lowe saw it as a chance for the North Burnett SES to further contribute to the community.

“At the request of the current operators of the bingo, who can no longer run it due to business commitments, and with no other charitable body prepared to take it on we thought it was a great opportunity for the North Burnett SES unit,” Mr Lowe said.

“Biggenden citizens enjoy their bingo day.

“They are very supportive of the SES in deciding to continue running (it).”

Mr Lowe hopes the new relationship will also help the North Burnett SES unit raise funds.

“All SES major equipment is supplied by the State Government or the regional council, for which we are truly grateful,” Mr Lowe said.

“However there is always other equipment, fittings or fixtures that we have to apply for grants to purchase or fundraise through raffles and so on.”

Bingo is played at the Biggenden Grand Hotel every Monday morning with all proceeds donated back into local organisations.

BINGO: SES controller Brian Lowe, Bevan Wade, Colleen Cunliffe and group leader Carol Miller.
