RUGBY LEAGUE: It’s estimated around 1500 spectators will watch the North Devils battle the East Tigers at Archer Park in Mundubbera.

Anticipated to be the game of the year, the Devils have had an inconsistent season with many players being poached to the Brisbane Broncos.

North Devils coach Mark Gliddon said his team was looking forward to their trip to Mundubbera and getting to meet the locals.

“We’re certainly looking forward to coming up next week, Country Week is a great concept that allows us teams to visit the country and to meet the locals,” he said.

“I’ve never been to Mundubbera but I’ve heard good things from other people who’ve been there.”

The North Devils will coach the kids in Gayndah on Saturday, July 22, before their big game on Sunday against the mighty Tigers.

“We started the year really well, after six rounds we had only lost one game but up until last week we had a few straight losses which wasn’t good for our side,” Gliddon said.

“We beat the Northern Pride last week in Cairns which was pleasing but you can say our team is quite inconsistent at the moment.

“Easts are a very good football team and we did beat them in round one but it doesn’t count.”

Gliddon said in training this week they would concentrate on ball execution.

“One of the golden rules of footy is our catch pass, we’ve got to look after our execution and ball control otherwise we just won’t win games,” he said.

East Tigers coach Scott Sipple said his team was in good shape for the game next weekend.

“We’re currently placed in the top four which is good news,” Sipple said.

“The Norths beat us last time we played so we’re looking to turn the tables around when the InTrust takes place in Mundubbera.”

Sipple said the good thing about the Country Week initiative was getting to play in different country towns.

“We really enjoy visiting the country towns and getting to meet the locals,” Sipple said.

“They are the ones who support our game and it’s good to give them something back.

“Our team have played well this season, it’s hard to find any faults with their performances so as long as the field is in good condition ahead of our competition next week, we should be right.”

In exciting news for the North Burnett region, Gayndah local Christopher Ostwald will have a run on the field as part of the East Tigers line up.
