Locals invest in saleyard future
New opportunity arises in Eidsvold for cattle owners
IT WAS an opportunity begging for long-term graziers Trish and Rob Bygraves, who just bought the Eidsvold saleyards.
No strangers to the region, the couple have acres of land at their property and have been invested in the cattle industry all their lives.
“I’ve worked in saleyards before and we just thought it’d be a great opportunity to continue the legacy of Eidsvold being the beef capital of the Burnett,” Mr Bygraves said.
“It’s such a good area, the effort the people have put in around the district here for their quality of cattle is fantastic.”
This year, the Bygraves family hopes to see a lot of cattle sold at the saleyards.
“I think the continuation of good numbers, fortnightly sales, keeping a strong market with plenty of cattle and good buyer support (is the key),” Mr Bygraves said.
Trish and Rob Bygraves have been based in Monto for a good part of their lives and hope to make an imprint in the Eidsvold area.
“We just came from Monto and we run the lucerne farm and the cattle place half an hour from the Eidsvold saleyards,” Mr Bygraves said.
“We have a couple of cattle places and have traded cattle all our lives. We have been in the area the whole time and we know what we’re doing.”
Next week will be the first sale since the couple bought the saleyards.
“We are just hoping for everything to stay the same. We’re known around the area, we just hope it’s a smooth transition and the staff will be the same,” Mr Bygraves said.
“It’s a well-supported sale so we’re not expecting extra numbers because we’re on the scene. The previous owners worked hard and we’ll continue building on that legacy.
“This will keep the stability the same.”
The sale will take place on August 2 at 12.30pm at the Eidsvold saleyards.
