Celebrating a Catholic mission
Recognising outstanding contribution to education
CATHOLIC kindergartens, primary schools and colleges throughout the Diocese of Rockhampton will join Catholic education communities throughout the state to mark Catholic Education Week 2017.
Catholic Education Week is an opportunity for Catholic schools to celebrate their distinctive mission and ethos.
This year’s Queensland focus is Sharing the Journey and invites all in Catholic education, staff, students, parents and friends to experience further and more deeply those attributes which are vital to Catholic schools.
Providing a learning environment that is spiritually nurturing, intellectually challenging and emotionally caring, Catholic school communities continue to provide support to lifelong learners.
Here in the Diocese of Rockhampton our Catholic schools strive not just to be different but to make a difference in the lives of the young people entrusted to our care.
This year we are delighted to have two state winners in the Annual Spirit of Catholic Education Awards.
These awards aim to recognise outstanding contributions by individuals within the Catholic education community and are presented annually as part of Catholic Education Week celebrations in Queensland.
Sr Mary Stallard, a Sister of Mercy from Bundaberg, has received the Diocesan Award for her outstanding contribution to Catholic education.
The Aunty Joan Hendricks Spirit of Catholic Education Reconciliation Award was initiated in 2012 and recognises an outstanding contribution to reconciliation.
This year’s state winner is Coral Way, Indigenous Education Co-ordinator, Catholic Education Office, Rockhampton.
Both Sr Mary and Coral were recognised at the 6pm Mass at St Joseph’s Cathedral Rockhampton on Saturday (along with the other 34 nominees from our schools and colleges).
They received their official awards at the launch of Catholic Education Week being held this year at St Andrew’s Catholic College, Cairns on Wednesday.
Our eight kindergartens, 31 primary schools and eight colleges are founded on a strong Catholic ethos, enabling the spirit of Jesus Christ to permeate all aspects of life communities.
We encourage anyone who is interested in a Catholic education for their child to visit your nearest Catholic kindergarten, primary school or college.
