Anderson’s birthday smash
GOLF: Monto Golf Club held its 27-hole Foursome Championships on Sunday, giving many of the golfers a Father’s Day out.
For event sponsor and father of two Eddie Anderson, it was also his birthday, making it a pretty big day for him.
“Roy Marbach and I always sponsor this foursome event, which happens to be on Father’s Day week, which also happens to be my birthday,” Anderson said.
“It’s a big day for me, though in golf it may not be.”
Anderson supplied a bottle of wine for the day’s winner, while Roy Marbach provided some meat trays.
Foursomes are played on a stroke game, where teams of two take turns with each hit.
Though Anderson joked that it wouldn’t be a big golf day for him, he proved right about the scores, and the winner of the foursome championships was the team made up of A-grade golfers Shane Taylor and Glen Evans.
It was the first time the two had played together in the foursomes and they proved to be a good combination.
“Glen played well, he had a good putting game so I think we combined our strengths,” Taylor said.
Taylor and Evans won the game with 116 strokes, up eight from the next best.
They also returned the best nett for the 27 and 18 holes, making them the winners of the trophies supplied by Anderson and Marbach.
This Sunday’s golf club event is the Accounting and You 2-Ball Ambrose, hitting off at noon.
The golf club recently received a Gambling Community Benefit Fund grant to purchase a new golf cart shed.
The committee will be holding a meeting on Tuesday to decide how the money would be utilised.
