Celebration time for our jnr netballers
NETBALL: Another year has gone by for the under-10 to 15 Monto junior netballers, who held a breakup last week to celebrate the season.
The kids played warm up games, shooting exercises and finished with some muck-around games between the mixed teams.
After the games, the coaches and members of the Monto Netball Association committee gave a talk on the way the kids had developed.
The breakup came at the end of a solid performance at the last Central North Burnett Challenge carnival in Nanango in late August, in which the under-10B Unicorns were awarded runners-up in their age group and three players were awarded Most Valuable Player trophies.
Netball Association president Belinda Steger said the kids were able to improve their skills and attend carnivals thanks to the dedication from parents and coaches.
“I would like to congratulate our players on the marvellous job you’ve done, and the coaches for a job well done in training them,” Steger said.
Each of the junior netball coaches handed out participation trophies to the players, as well as awards for individual achievement.
Many of the players were awarded for getting out of their comfort zone, playing with courage and good sportsmanship.
Under-15s coach Bec Evans gave the last speech of the day and mentioned that, as it may be her last time coaching, she needed to make it a good one.
“I’ve had an amazing five years of coaching the Monto Blue Thunders, watching them grow from under 10s to under 12s where they won the Central North Burnett challenge, up until now when Pink Thunder joined us in the under-15s,” Evans said.
“They make me proud each and every time they play, especially when we’ve been working on something and they manage to put it in a game.”
