Keeping lights on

Central and North Burnett Times - - YOUR SAY - — Colin Boyce LNP candidate for Callide

A 50% renewable energy target will have catastrophic consequences for Callide households and businesses.

The Labor Party will implement a 50% Renewable Energy Target (RET) if they form government after the next election.

This will put Queensland in the same energy position as South Australia.

We will have an unreliable, unaffordable power generation system and blackouts.

South Australia is dependent on Queensland’s coal-fired power to compensate for their power production shortfalls.

With a 50% RET, households will be disconnected, industry and businesses will close their doors and the obvious outcome is that jobs will be lost.

The Labor Party will phase out coal-fired electricity generation.

A LNP Government will support private sector investment in the construction of a new high efficiency, low emissions (HELE) coal-fired power generator in Queensland.

We will support and maintain jobs in the coal mining and power generation industry.

We will supply affordable and reliable electricity in Queensland.

Coal-fired power generators are capable of producing electricity 24 hours a day, seven days a week, rain, hail or shine.

It is the most reliable, most affordable power generation option we have at present. There are hundreds of new HELE coal-fired generators being built all over the world.

We will help businesses create jobs and we will deliver affordable, reliable electricity for Queensland consumers.
