Drones for region on wish list
THE North Burnett Regional Council is going to investigate the possibility of purchasing drones for the region.
At the September council meeting, Councillor Faye Whelan said as there was some Tropical Cyclone Marcia money left in the kitty, she thought the council could come up with a project that met the department’s criteria for the use of the money.
“It would be good to keep the funds in the community for benefits across all sectors of the council business and during disaster events,” Cr Whelan said.
Her proposal was to buy drones for each of the towns
“In disasters we are separated by so many flooded creeks,” she said.
“These would be an asset to gain a pictorial view of what is happening during a disaster event and useful for recording damage of infrastructure of NDRRA claims.
“I truly believe it would be money well spent.”
Cr Whelan said the $24,000 would be adequate to purchase drones, along with training staff.
“In a bushfire they could show the perspective of where the smoke is,” she said.
“Another example would be tourist promotion and watering of sports field to see if irrigation water was missing.”
