Big prize money for spring races

THIS Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 14 is the sec­ond Gayn­dah Jockey Club’s spring race meet, with a five-race pro­gram sched­uled.

There is $80,000 of prize­money up for grabs.

Gates open from noon with fun for the whole fam­ily, with the first race set to be­gin at 1.30pm and the last race to con­clude prior to 5pm.

New Gayn­dah Jockey Club vice pres­i­dent Stu­art Kirk over­saw his first race meet ear­lier this year and en­joyed the ex­pe­ri­ence.

“From all ac­counts it was a suc­cess, I per­son­ally had fun,” Kirk said.

This will be the last Gayn­dah race meet be­fore its 150 year cel­e­bra­tion in 2018.

“It’s go­ing to be big­ger than Ben Hur,” Mr Kirk said.

How­ever there is the spring car­ni­val first, with a chance to soak in the spring weather and sup­port one of Queens­land’s old­est rac­ing clubs.

“It’s re­ally good for Gayn­dah and the race club com­mu­nity,” Mr Kirk said.

“You just have to look at the event and see how the town comes to­gether.”

A race day stal­wart, Fash­ions on the Field will also be on with a theme of bloom­ing, fas­ci­nat­ing and Mad Hat­ters.

Scratch­ings for the five races will close by 7.45am on Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 14 and jockey de­cel­er­a­tions by 1pm on Thurs­day, Oc­to­ber 12.
