Big prize money for spring races
THIS Saturday, October 14 is the second Gayndah Jockey Club’s spring race meet, with a five-race program scheduled.
There is $80,000 of prizemoney up for grabs.
Gates open from noon with fun for the whole family, with the first race set to begin at 1.30pm and the last race to conclude prior to 5pm.
New Gayndah Jockey Club vice president Stuart Kirk oversaw his first race meet earlier this year and enjoyed the experience.
“From all accounts it was a success, I personally had fun,” Kirk said.
This will be the last Gayndah race meet before its 150 year celebration in 2018.
“It’s going to be bigger than Ben Hur,” Mr Kirk said.
However there is the spring carnival first, with a chance to soak in the spring weather and support one of Queensland’s oldest racing clubs.
“It’s really good for Gayndah and the race club community,” Mr Kirk said.
“You just have to look at the event and see how the town comes together.”
A race day stalwart, Fashions on the Field will also be on with a theme of blooming, fascinating and Mad Hatters.
Scratchings for the five races will close by 7.45am on Saturday, October 14 and jockey decelerations by 1pm on Thursday, October 12.
