Gladiators take on Eagles in first match
AFTER a trial match, Clash for Cash and some vigorous training sessions, the Gayndah Gladiators are prepared for a season of success; kicking off with their game against Eidsvold on Saturday.
Gladiators coach Robert Linsket said the players were eager to get back on the field.
“They’re pretty excited,” Linsket said.
“It’s their first real club game of the year so they are really keen for the weekend.”
The team has kept up its normal training routine, with a focus on fitness.
“They’ve also been honing their ball skills on Thursday night,” Linsket said.
With an exciting announcement to be made in the coming weeks, players will be looking to show off their skills and camaraderie this weekend.
“We haven’t yet picked the team captain,” Linsket said.
“Three players are in line for the title and we’ll be making the decision soon.”
In a trial match in February, the Gladiators defeated the Murgon Mustangs 20–10.
The game, held at Gayndah, was a fundraiser for the club.
"The community behind us has been unbelievable,” Linsket said.
This weekend’s game will kick off at 3pm at Eidsvold football fields.
There will be a canteen and bar operating from 1.30pm.
And Linsket said he had high hopes for his team.
“It would be nice to get a win first off,” he said.
“You never know who is going to perform best, though.”
The Gayndah Gladiators are ready for their first clash of the season this weekend.
