GOLF: Geoff Nebauer has taken on a field of 13 players to win a hotly contested afternoon of golf in Monto on Easter Sunday.

With stableford scoring in effect, it went down to the wire and Nebauer claimed victory on countback.

He said he turned around some ordinary form thanks to practice on his short game at home.

“It’s always nice to win,” he said.

“I’ve been hitting them all right the last three weeks.”

Club captain Helen Irvine said golfers played for a club trophy at any event they couldn’t get sponsored.

“It was a really good day

and the weather was kind,” Irvine said.

“We don’t expect a big crowd over Easter but it was a great afternoon of golf.”

The event is sponsored by Stewart’s family in memory of the former club captain.
