Kalpowar on Small Halls tour

Central and North Burnett Times - - PULSE -

KALPOWER Hall will host the Festival of Small Halls’ Spring Tour on Saturday, November 17.

Visiting artists will include Madison Violet from Canada and Australia’s Harry Jakamarra.

When you hear Brenley and Lisa of Madison Violet, the first thing you will notice is their voices blend together, symbiotically, like family: born to sing the same songs.

And over the past 18 years, the pair has take to genre-bending, moving effortlessly from folk to pop to electronic to Americana.

In a word, they are musical chameleons.

Meanwhile, Harry Jakamarra has a voice that stops listeners dead in their tracks.

He has a punchy, Springsteen-esque growl that’s imbued with the rugged texture of the West Australian desert where he grew up.

Harry tours in a vegie oilpowered fire engine he converted to a house.

He will be joined on stage by his younger brother, Elwood Gray, who is an accomplished and road-worn song-craftsman who possesses a depth to his playing well beyond his 18 years.
