End of the line for Monto bus

Central and North Burnett Times - - NEWS -

NEXT week marks the end of an era for a North Burnett bus that has transported students who live in rural and remote properties surrounding Monto to and from school for generations.

The school bus route through Selene, Kapaldo, Anyarrow and Goolga, originally operated by Frank Price, has been a fixture in the district since 1946.

The run holds a special place in the hearts of many families in the district, who have seen their children and then grandchildren use it to travel to school.

This year, the run was used by just 14 students and locals suspected that sooner or later the 72-year journey would come to an end.

The trip on Friday, October 19, will be its last, after a decision was made to amalgamate smaller bus runs in the region so that school transport can remain viable.

Current operators Matthew and Tracey Pattie are throwing a farewell afternoon tea for all students and parents, past and present, who have travelled on the bus.

Everyone is invited to bring a plate to the Patties’ Kapaldo Rd property next Friday from 3.30pm.

Please RSVP before October 15 by calling 4167 2229.
