Welcome rain calls for reduced yarding
DUE to the welcomed rainfall over the past few days the combined agents had a small yarding of 840 head on Friday comprising of 464 steers, 304 heifers, 56 Cows, 5X5 Cows and Calves and 22 Bulls
The cattle were drawn from Mundubbera through to Collinsville and although mixed, there was generally good quality on offer.
The market for slaughter cattle remained fully firm to dearer, while re-stocker and feeder cattle lifted for the quality on offer.
Steers to slaughter topped 269.2 c/kg to average 252.8 c/kg while steers 400 to 500kg topped 287.2 c/kg to average 255.1 c/kg.
Steers 300 to 400kg topped 287.2 c/kg to average 252.4 c/kg while steers 200 to 300kg topped 360.2 c/kg to average 325.7 c/kg.
Steers under 200kg topped 378.2 c/kg to average 353.5 c/kg.
Cows to slaughter topped 213.2 c/kg to average 208.7 c/kg while cows 400 to 450kg topped 200.0 c/kg to average 177.5c/kg.
Cows 320 to 400kg topped 182.2c/kg to average 163.6c/kg.
Heavy heifers topped 236.2 c/kg to average 235.2c/kg while heifers 300 to 400kg topped 274.2 c/kg to average 253.3c/kg.
Heifers 200 to 300kg topped 286.2 c/kg to average 257.7 c/kg while heifers under 200kg topped 290.2 c/kg to average 276.2 c/kg.
Cows and calves topped $980 per unit to average $856 per unit.
Bulls over 600kg topped 269.2c/kg to average 256.4c/kg while bulls 450kg to 600kg topped 246.2c/kg to average 230.1c/kg.
Bulls under 450kg topped 300.0 c/kg to average 269.3 c/kg.
Boongana Pty Ltd, Dingo – Sold Braford weaner steers for 350c/kg weighing 248kg returning $870 p/head.
MJ & SM McEvoy, Eungella – Sold Brangus weaner heifers topping at 280c/kg weighing 233kg to return $641 p/head. Their steers sold for 348c/kg weighing 292kg to return $1015. D& S Flohr, Wowan – Sold Brangus bullocks to average 262c/kg weighing 585kg to return at $1530 p/head.
Aileen Hobson, Banana – Sold Shorthorn cross steers to 378c/kg weighing 185kg to return $701 p/head. The same heifers made 288c/kg weighing 184kg to $531 p/head.
Montrose Grazing Co, Marlborough – Sold EU Accredited Brahman Weaner steers for 260c/kg weighing 247kg to return $891 p/head.
D& W Lehfeldt, Kalapa – Sold No.6 Droughtmaster heifers for 267c/kg weighing 397kg returning $1062 p/head.
LAST weeks Emerald Sale saw 802 head yarded plus cow’s & calves.
All of the usual meatworks buyers were in attendance as well as quite a few local restockers.
Lighter steers topped at 309c/kg which was less -11c on last sale.
Steers 200-280kgs averaged 310c/kg which was up +3c on last sale topping at 336.2c/kg.
A good line of feeder steers 400-500kgs saw prices average 249c/kg up +13c on average of last week’s sale.
Lighter heifers down -25c topping at 269c, heifer’s 280-350kgs topping at 279c and averaging 251c up +13 on last sale.
Heavy heifers over 400kgs topped 234c/kg up +3c.
Cows were down across all categories today seeing lighter cow’s top at 190c/kg and cows 450-520kgs averaged 180c topping at 206c/kg.
Cows over 520kgs averaged 201c less -7c.
Bulls 450-600kgs this week topped at 227c and heavy bulls over 600kgs averaging 224c topping at 248c and sitting firm after last week.
A pen of 7X7 cows and calves sold for $1200. HIGHLIGHTS
W.T & T.M Shaw, Billabong Plains Comet, sold Charolais X & Euro X Steers for 328.2c/kg weighing an average 250kgs and making a return of $820 per head.
CHARTERS Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 1602 head last week.
Cattle consisting of 506 prime cattle and 1096 store cattle.
The prime cattle consisted of 195 bullocks, 24 heifers, 237 cows and 50 bulls.
Store cattle consisted of 711 steers, 385 heifers, 0 cows and 4 cows & calves.
Cattle comprised of good lines of mixed bullocks and cows, with strong competition from meatworks and exporters.
The yarding was drawn from as far West as Mt. Isa and as North as Cape York, as well as local and coastal surrounding areas such as Georgetown, Greenvale and Hughenden.
Bullocks were quoted as 2-4c dearer, heifers were 4c easier and cows were 10-15c dearer, on last week’s rates.
Store cattle were made of some good numbers and lines from the North & West, that met with strong competition from both backgrounders and exporters, as well as restockers.
Bullocks sold for 265.2/kg on a/c Pedracini Grazing that weighed 574kg to return $1,524 per head.
Best priced Trade Heifers were presented on a/c WH & MA Bojack which made 244.0¢/kg to weigh 410kg and return $1,001 per head.
The top pen of Cows were sold by LD Knuth & Co for 210.2¢/kg and weighed 518kg to return $1,088 per head.
Bulls sold on a/c David Jackson & Sons topped at 244¢/kg and weighed 715kg to return $1,746 per head.
A line of 27 Steers a/c Doonan Cattle Co averaged 352¢/kg and average weight 196kg and realised $691 per head.
A line of 192 Red Brahman Steers a/c Morr Morr Pastoral Co weighed 266.7kg & sold for 322.9¢/kg to return $862 per head.
A total of 3,171 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.
Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 392c/kg and averaged 362c/kg.
Weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 382c/kg and averaged 345c/kg.
Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 382c/kg and averaged 301c/kg, and steers in the 350 to 400kg range reached 314c/kg and averaged 288c/kg.
Feeder steers in the 400 to 550kg range topped at 298c/kg and averaged 282c/kg.
Heifers under 220kg topped at 324c/kg and averaged 288c/kg, while heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 310c/kg and averaged 269c/kg.
Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 315c/kg, averaging 284c/kg.
