CAPELLA is preparing to host the upcoming Australasian Team Roping Association (ATRA) National Finals with more than 300 competitors expected to take part in an event that is famed as the “pinnacle” of the ATRA sporting year.

President of the Australasian Team Roping Tony Lillyman said he was looking forward to this year’s meet, which would be held from September 28 to October 1.

He said the national champion would be crowned and participants and spectators would be able to celebrate the time and dedication competitors put into their horses, the sport and the industry.

“Capella is shaping up to be the biggest and best so far. An increase in membership numbers across the country has brought an influx of competitors, not only to our weekend events, but to our showcased fixture – The National Finals,” Mr Lillyman said.

Team Roping is one of the fastest growing horse sports in the world and ATRA promoters now host more than 100 events a year across Australia and New Zealand.

Mr Lillyman said, “The overwhelming increase in roping quality and

Competitors have also incurred a general increase in their classification numbers, which can only be seen as a positive reflection of their own progress. We are looking forward to another great week in central Queensland, showcasing our growth.”

Mr Lillyman said ATRA was committed to the growth and development of team roping as a premier sport and industry that supports and fosters the growth of the national economy, positively engages youth to make good choices, and “stands by its mates in the true Aussie spirit and is proud of its traditions and commitment to strong family values and participation”.
