Big finish to the season
Two out of three for Brothers
RUGBY LEAGUE: Four Emerald Brothers teams went into the Central Highlands Junior Rugby League grand finals, with two emerging victors at the weekend.
With two Brothers teams playing off for the trophy in the under-13 division and a side in each of the U15 and U17 games, Emerald Brothers Junior Rugby League Club president Craig Twaddle said it was a great result for the club.
“Last year we had four teams in the grand final as well so to have four teams back in the grand final this year, it’s really a fantastic achievement by everybody – the coaches, players, coaching staff, parents – everybody,” he said.
“I’m extremely proud of the four teams on making the grand final and finishing the year on a high.
“We won two premierships, it would’ve been great to win three, but that’s football.”
A highlight of the grand finals series for Twaddle was the U15 game between the Emerald Brothers and Emerald Tigers.
“I thought the U15 game was a real highlight due to the fact the Brothers and the Tigers U15 teams have played each other very often,” he said.
“But on Saturday the Brothers left the best to last and the final score was 34-16.
“I thought that was outstanding.
“To have the U13s play against each other was also an outstanding achievement.”
The finals were held in Clermont and Twaddle praised the Clermont club for putting on a great day.
With the season now over for the juniors, Twaddle summed up the past year as “fantastic”.
“It was a really great season, we won two premierships, had numerous players selected for representative teams and our touring sides go away and perform well.”
