Bursaries for rural women

Central Queensland News - - RURALWEEKLY -

QUEENSLAND Rural Regional and Remote Women’s Network has announced a number of bursaries to help rural women attend its annual conference in Emerald next week.

Both full and half bursaries are available for this year’s conference for women who would otherwise be unable to attend due to hardship or distance.

Thanks to the generosity of sponsors such as QRIDA, St Margaret’s School, Austsafe Super, Aurizon, Ken O’Dowd MP, Lachlan Millar MP, CQUniversity and recent Ekka High Tea attendees, the network is able to invite nominations from women who otherwise would be denied this opportunity.

The QRRRWN conference is noted for its motivational and inspirational impact that leaves a lasting legacy in rural, regional and remote Queensland communities.

President Alison Mobbs said she was excited to be announcing the conference bursaries for 2017.

“This is one of the aspects of the conference we are particularly proud of. We know that often the women who are unable to attend are the ones who would gain most from the conference.

“Experiencing three days of positivity, personal development, inspiration and friendship can be just what is needed to get through a difficult situation.”

The brief application allows women to say what is preventing them from attending the conference and/or if any of the following has occurred in the past three years: drought, wildfire, flood, childcare issues, distance, financial stress, serious health conditions or other issues.

To make a bursary nomination, request an application form or have your questions answered, email Margaret Harrison on conference@qrrrwn.org.au. Applications are held in the strictest of confidence.

QRRRWN started 24 years ago out of the needs and concerns of rural women in towns and farms during a time when the dominant conversation in rural Australia was about tough times.

The conference is on from October 19–20.

❝attend Women who are unable to are the ones who would gain the most from the conference.
