Races take over the region
Moranbah Race Club offers $45,000 in prizemoney for feature race day
THE Moranbah Racing Club’s biggest day of the year, their spring carnival meeting, is upon us and a country race day has never shaped up bigger in the coal capital of Queensland.
Make sure you are part of the crowd when the Moranbah races get under way on Saturday, November 11 at Treasure Park.
The Isaac Regional Council is the major sponsor and the mayor of Anne Baker said the council was extremely proud to be involved again with the iconic spring race day community event.
The feature event on the program will be the $10,000 Isaac Regional Council Cup over 1550 metres.
A Treasure Park race day offers a vibrant atmosphere for friends and families to get together and enjoy a social outing or a friendly punt.
Newly elected Moranbah Race Club president Simon Phillips said the club would be observing Remembrance Day with an Anzac Day tribute and a minute’s silence.
He said Burdekin’s ALP candidate Mike Brunker would present awards to the winning jockeys.
Brunker is the ruling $2 favourite to take out the seat of Burdekin with betting conglomerate Sportsbet at time of printing, after the mining strongholds of Moranbah and Middlemount were included in the electorate with the change in the state’s electorate boundaries.
Brunker is an avid punter and a big fan of racing and will be a strong voice for the racing industry in the newly formed electorate.
Club vice president John Juhas said hoped the $45,000 in prize money on offer would ensure top quality country racing.
Juhas said the fashions on the field competition was always hotly contested and the fashions were an integral part of the success of the day.
Moranbah folk are always eager to be part of the fashion, locals and visitors alike, ladies, gents and children all take the time to dress to impress and try their luck in the competition.
The fashions of the field will include many fantastic prizes to the lucky winners.
There will be plenty of options for the kiddies with entertainment to keep them busy throughout the day.
Musical act Bareback will perform after the last race and rock on well into the night performing many favourite songs throughout the day.
Gates open at 10.30am and entry is $15.
There will be buses running frequently to and from the Moranbah Workers Club throughout the day and into the night.
