A beefy program for all to enjoy

Central Queensland News - - CQ INDUSTRY -

THE countdown is on for Beef Australia 2018 with 12 weeks to go.

Beef Australia 2015 attracted 90,000 people through the gates and this year, around 100,000 people from all over Australia and the world are expected to attend.

The event, which is held in Rockhampton every three years, is a huge economic boost for the region.

Studies from the last expo by the Department of State Development found the gross expenditure of attendees was $74 million, with an average $1615 spent per person.

“In 2015, nearly one third of respondents were attending the expo for the first time, and 17 per cent just came to enjoy the event, which suggests that Beef Australia is more than just a beef industry expo and that the event is very appealing ... as an activity to visit in its own right,” Beef Australia marketing and communications manager Sarah Mitchell-Anyon said.

Some new items on the agenda at the 11th expo include a Shop Window Competition, Young Chef Ambassador Competition and People’s Day in the Paddock.

It will also feature more than 4500 cattle from over 30 breeds, a trade fair promoting more than 500 businesses, seminars and property tours to deliver new research information to producers.

Beef Australia will be held May 6-12. For more information, head online to beefaustralia.com.au.
