It’s official – Terri Boyce named winner in Division 6 by-election

Central Telegraph - - NEWS -

TERRI Boyce has been declared the winner of the Banana Shire Council Division 6 by-election.

Mrs Boyce’s election was confirmed by returning officer Ray Ovens on Wednesday morning, having won 715 votes (56.03%) to Bronwyn Christensen’s 561 (43.97%).

While the election officially closed and counting began on February 25, a final result could not be declared until Wednesday as voters had 10 days to return their ballots in the postal voting-only election. CONTRIBUTED

The 81.31% turnout is difficult to compare to previous elections, with former councillor Vaughn Becker having run unopposed in 2016 and 2012.

In the 2008 ballot, Mr Becker defeated Mrs Boyce’s husband Colin, a former Taroom councillor, by 1031 votes to 362.

Mrs Boyce last week said she would take some time to acclimate herself to the job before pushing for her budget priorities to be included in the upcoming 2017–18 Banana Shire Council budget

She will be sworn in as a councillor on Tuesday at 8.45am at the Banana Shire council chambers in Biloela, before attending her first council workshop.

Terri Boyce.
