Black’s out as winter wardrobes come to life
Rich palette reinvents florals for the cooler months
DESIGNERS are giving drab grey and black the cold shoulder and bringing winter wardrobes to life. David Jones ambassador Jess Gomes says the autumn-winter fashion climate’s uncharacteristic show of colour extends to out-of-season bouquets, with delicate pastel blooms popping on a backdrop of navy, khaki, plum or deep forest green. “Floral is really big this season and a lot of Australian designers – Camilla and Marc, Lover the Label – are doing it,” Jess says. While the pretty patterns are most at home on floaty frocks and sheer blouses, some smart layering will help you tackle temperature changes. “Bomber jackets are great to throw on, or you can invest in a really good leather jacket,” Jess says. If full-on flower power isn’t your thing, pull the look back with a block colour that echoes a hue in your feature floral.
