Golfers journey far and wide for Monto carnival
GOLF: The long drive did not deter more than 60 visiting players who travelled to Monto for the annual Veterans’ Golf carnival.
Players from Moura, Biloela, Injune, Calliope, Tannum Sands, Gladstone, Gin Gin, Mundubbera and Miriamvale played for trophies donated by Taylormaid Quilts, Monto Vets, Craig Swift Bundaberg and East End Hotel.
Monto treasurer Shane Taylor said it was great to get so much support.
“This is our biggest day of the year in terms of most players in any one day.
“These people come a long way – for a big club to come and help us, it’s great.”
The home players impressed in the ladies’ tournament.
A-grade and B-grade were won by Helen Irvine and Noela Wilkes of Monto respectively, though the overall winner was Denise Busteed from Gladstone.
