Postal vote for mar­riage

THE Trea­surer, un­der the Cen­sus and Statis­tics Act 1905, has re­quested statis­tics from Aus­tralians on the Com­mon­wealth Elec­toral Roll, as to their views on whether or not the law should be changed to al­low same sex cou­ples to marry.

Key dates:

■ Au­gust 24: Elec­toral Roll closes for new/changes to en­rol­ments (mid­night lo­cal time).

■ Septem­ber 12: Com­mence­ment of mail­ing of forms.

■ Novem­ber 7: Vot­ing closes ■ Novem­ber 15: Statis­tics re­leased.

Vot­ing is not com­pul­sory.
