Weather behaves for show
Notching up another win
THE Wowan Show Committee would sincerely like to acknowledge the wonderful support they received for the 84th Wowan Show on Saturday.
The August westerly winds were a little testing, especially for our ring announcer and show patrons, and Mother Nature turned on the cold conditions.
The showgrounds were busy on Friday and Saturday with exhibitors, stall holders etc, plenty of entertainment on offer.
It was wonderful to see the pavilions full with exhibits, the ring events were kept busy with lots of horses and their riders, the stud cattle entries were plentiful, good ute muster entries, poultry numbers were down but overall a great country show and without the support from exhibitors, sponsors, volunteers and committee members this would not of been possible.
Rockhampton Regional Councillor Neil Fisher officially opened the 2017 Wowan Show and Neil spoke about the passion he has for regional country shows.
Tyrone did another sterling job entertaining the crowd throughout the whole day, the Local Vocals from Biloela entertained in the morning, Breanna and her horses performed a Liberty display and trick riding, our models did a great job modelling in the fashion parade with clothes from Roundyard Saddlery, the wood chop guys did a great job with their axes in the wood chop demo and it was good to local Kev Rankin swinging the axe again, the bike riders enjoyed the laps around the circuit and “Just Us” got the crowd on their feet with their music including the karaoke.
I think we may have to polish up on our singing.
ON TUESDAY the MPC organised a bus trip to Goovigen and Biloela to celebrate Seniors Week and it was great to have a drive in our back yard.
Golden Park Retreat hosts Rob and Maree have a wonderful garden setting in Goovigen with plenty of beautiful trees, shrubs etc with many old vehicles nestled among the gardens.
On arrival I spotted Vince Armstrong’s old VK Motors truck, what memories.
Callide Coaches bus driver Peter did a great job taking the locals for a drive through Argoon, out to the Power House, Callide Dam, through a newer housing estate etc.
After the touring all enjoyed lunch at the Anzac Club in Biloela.
A wonderful day was held and they are now waiting for their next trip, which will be Kilburnie Homestead on Tuesday, September 19.

Come and enjoy a nice meal and social outing with friends. Sincere thanks to Muscles and Kerry and hotel patrons for their support of the August pub raffles.
