AMELLIA MOORE was crowned the Moura Coal and Country Festival Entrant of the Year in the lead-up to the festival over the weekend and for 19 year-old it runs in the family.

A few family members of Amellia’s have entered the Entrant of the Year in the past including Amellia’s mother.

Amellia said you could say it was in her blood.

“I feel like that would be a good way to put it,” she said.

Amellia grew up on the outskirts of Banana and attended Moura High School.

Throughout the years Amellia has been involved in a number of sporting group.

Her interest and passion for the industry has lead her to study at Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science.

When isn’t studying and working at two local Moura food establishments, Amellia is a dedicated horse woman.

She has been a long-time competitor of polocrosse and horse-racing.

She also worked with horses in Sydney for six months in 2014.

Adding to her busy studying, horses and working schedule was the work involved in organising events and activities in fundraising for the Moura Coal and Country Festival.

Amellia reflected on her time and said it was well worth the exhaustion.

“It was really good, I really enjoyed it,” she said.

“I struggled with sleep but it is something I would definitely do again.”

A local herself, Amellia has many memoires of going to the Moura Coal and Country Festival.

“My memories would be the ballet float,” she said.

“And the barrel race and pony club side of things.

“Those memories are very special to me.”

Amellia believes the festival has a strong future.

“I don’t think it is dying, it just has another edge to it,” she said. She hopes the festival stays around for years to come.

“It is something I grew up doing and want my kids to be able to experience it as well,” she said. Amellia also hopes to see others enter the Entrant and Fundraiser of the Year and has already begun working her way in convincing others to do it.

“I definitely recommend it,” she said.

“It is worth taking the jump and doing it.”
