FASHION ON THE FIELD ADVICE:
Fashion and styling advice
STOCKINGS, STOCKINGS, STOCKINGS.
If you are looking to win Fashions on the Fields, Amanda Rose of Manda Jane Fashions says to put on a good pair of stockings.
“It is about the full outfit, the complete outfit,” she said.
“Stockings complete an outfit, there is nothing worse than having a nice dress with nice shoes, bag and a fascinator then you have white legs.
“Even if you do have sandals on, there are toeless stockings these days.”
There are no exceptions on what kind of dress it is.
“It depends on the length of the dress and the height of the person,” Amanda said.
“And how formal the dress is.”
Through her 10 years of experience in the fashion industry and time judging, Amanda has spent a lot of time seeing fashions come and go.
“I have judged a few and I do look for things that mix and match,” she said.
“Not everything needs to be matching these days.”
Amanda said it is important the outfit all ties in.
“Your bag might not match your shoes but it will match your dress.
“As long as they all match in their own way.”
This year, Amanda has sold a number of dresses in all varying styles and colours.
“Florals is popular, floral embroidery, a certain amount of lace,” she said. “Navy is still very big.” Personally, Amanda doesn’t normally go for block colours.
“I go for elegance in what I wear,” she said.
“And a lot of patterns.” Along with a pair of stockings, the best advice Amanda can give is to plan your outfit.
“It is a good idea to go with your dress first and
then accessorise,” she said.
“It can be very hard when you buy a fascinator first and then you have to find a dress.”
In her shop, Amanda takes pride in guiding customers in what style they look best in.
“It depends on the person and what they are comfortable in,” she said.
“Choosing a style to suit their body type.
“An outfit is an individual choice, it is up to them.”
The old rule of never repeat an outfit can be ignored, Amanda said you can wear outfits again.
“When choosing a dress for the races think about the others places you can wear it,” she said.
“You can wear them to a wedding or a formal.”
