THREE people were injured in a multi-car accident on Friday afternoon.

Police, fire crews and paramedics were called to the traffic lights intersection at 4.28pm after receiving reports of a car “crashing into a commercial premises.”

According to police, an 82 year old man from Maroochydore driving a silver Holden Commodore was leaving the Kariboe Court Target carpark after dropping his wife off to go shopping around 4.30pm.

The man believed his car was in reverse when in fact it was in drive and caused him to drive through the lefthand window of the Target Country store front.

He also hit two other cars in the carpark – a Mazda and a Mitsibushi Lancer – and one pedestrian.

Police believe the man panicked and sped out of the carpark into oncoming traffic, heading east from the traffic lights.

The Commodore T-boned into a Ford Falcon.

This caused the Falcon to spin around onto the median strip.

The Commodore then spun around and continued across Gladstone Road coming to face in a westerly direction in front of Velocity Computers.

A driver and a passenger were trapped inside the Falcon and were freed by fire fighters who removed a side door around 5.13pm.

One trapped passenger was a woman who had sustained minor injuries.

At one point fire fighters were using crow prop support beams to hold up part of the Target store front.

Three people were rushed to Biloela Hospital following the accident.

The passenger of the Falcon was sent as a precaution for minor injuries.

The pedestrian who was hit was suffering from serious pelvis, leg, head and neck injuries and was later airlifted to Rockhampton.

The driver of the Commodore was also sent to hospital and is believed he may been suffering from a medical condition.

All three were in a stable condition when they were transported, according to a QAS spokesperson.

Gladstone Road was closed in both directions for 90 minutes.

Police are continuing investigations into the incident.
