Netball season over for another year
TUESDAY night saw the grand final of the 2017 Biloela Netball Association season.
Crowds of supporters all brought along their cheering voices as they cheered on their teams.
The Junior AA game of Skittles against Pocket Rockets turned into a close game as it was a draw at full time.
Extra time was allocated with two minutes for each side and some goals were shared by each side.
After the nailbiting four minutes, Pocket Rockets had the lead by a couple of points and came out on top.
Association president Annette Hitchman said this year was a good season.
“We had a lot of successes with various teams at carnivals as well,” she said.
“And some teams participate in the premier league this season in Emerald. “Others went to talents camps throughout the season, 12s and 13s invited to go.”
Annette made a special mention of players Christina McLure, Gemma Hancox, Adrianne Greenhalgh.
“Some of them were selected in high-performance teams and squads,” she said.
“So plenty of opportunities to improve their netballing goals.”
Numbers were strong with players this year.
“We had more of the junior As in the high school ages,” Annette said.
“But if you combine the junior team range, they are our strongest group.”
In the littlies, Net Set Go also had a good turnout.
“We had a good turn out in that, 8-10 ages was good numbers and 5-7 was good,” Annette said.
“Hopefully they are our up and coming champions.”
Volunteering the association for a number of years, Annette has had the pleasure of seeing players and teams grow.
“Pocket Rockets have been together for a few years and Sapphires have been together since their Net Set Go days,” she said.
While the season is over, Annette said the work doesn’t end.
“We will start meeting for the year,” she said.
“We start preparations for the next season, just because the fixtures are over doesn’t mean the work is finished.”
The mammoth task of paperwork and preparations from the team of volunteers will begin.
“We have to start getting ready for our representative side, next year’s season, how the season will operates, fees, information for sign on,” Annette said.
And a reflection on this year’s season just gone.
“A wrap up of the season, do a review of what worked and how we need to improve things,” Annette said.
